Why you’ll love this recipe
- Loads of flavour: Salmon has lots of flavour on its own but adding the orange glaze takes it up a level.
- Easy to make: Salmon isn’t hard to cook, just grab a meat thermometer if you are a little unsure whether it is cooked and watch for the temperature to be over 70C.
- Tons of goodness: Salmon is one of the healthy fish options with loads of nutrients in it so the meal is packed with good stuff.

Ingredients
- Salmon: 6 ounce fillets are the best for the recipe, preferably the wild caught type.
- Orange juice: Freshly squeezed juice makes for the best glaze.
- Honey: Use what you have or buy a runny honey that mixes well.
- Balsamic vinegar: Use a good quality one to bring the glaze together.
- Asparagus: Remove the tough ends before cooking.

Substitutions and Additions
- Orange juice: You can use store bought juice, just aim for one that doesn’t have any sweeteners in it. Or you could use another citrus juice for a different flavour.
- Asparagus: If you want, you could swap the asparagus for green beans or broccoli.
- Honey: If you don’t have honey, you could use agave nectar or maple syrup instead.
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the salmon
Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper or a baking mat. Place the salmon filets skin side down in the center of the baking sheet and set aside.
Step 2: Mix the glaze
In a medium bowl, whisk together the orange juice, honey, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and garlic. Generously season with salt and black pepper, to taste, and brush over the salmon.
Step 3: Add the asparagus
Add the asparagus to the bowl with the orange juice mixture and gently toss to combine. Season with additional salt and black pepper, to taste.
Step 4: Cook the dish
Arrange asparagus around the salmon filets in a single layer and place sheet pan in pre-heated oven. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or just until the salmon is flaky and the asparagus develops a bit of color, being careful to not overcook the salmon.
Remove from oven and serve immediately.

Recipe tips
- Make ahead: You can make the glaze ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days. When you’re ready to make the dish, just brush it over the salmon and asparagus and bake as directed.
- Serving ideas: You can serve it just as it is or with some creamy mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes or a salad.
- Add more glaze if needed: If the salmon looks a little dry while cooking, simply pour more glaze over it to keep it nice and saucy.
Recipe FAQ
Can you sear the salmon before oven cooking?
Yes you can if you like the salmon to be a little crispier. To do this, heat a little oil in a pan over medium high heat and sear the salmon for 1-2 minutes per side. Then continue with the recipe as written.
Do I have to use parchment paper?
No, you don’t have to but it helps to prevent sticking and makes for an easier clean up. If you don’t have any on hand, you could lightly grease the baking sheet with oil.
Storage & reheating
- Fridge: Store any leftovers in the fridge and use within 3 days. Make sure the fish is hot before serving.
- Freezer: You can freeze fresh salmon before you add the glaze and cook it for up to 3 months.
- Reheating: Add the salmon to a baking tray in the oven to reheat.
