How to make peach salsa more (or less) spicy

To make the peach salsa less spicy, you can:

  • Stick with just using japaleno peppers (some recipes recommend using Habanero as well)
  • Use half the amount of jalapeno and add some bell peppers of any colour instead
  • Remove the jalapeno entirely and use just bell peppers – but be warned it might be too sweet

If you want to up the heat level and have extra spicy salsa:

  • Use a mixture of jalapeno and Habanero peppers
  • Increase the amount of jalapenos

What to serve peach salsa with

You can serve fresh peach salsa as a side dish for lots of Mexican recipes. It is also great to add at a party as a side dish that people can grab as required, a bit like any other type of tomato salsa.

A few favourites you could try the recipe with include:

  • Simple tortilla chips in place of normal salsa
  • Orange roughy or other minimally seasoned fish
  • Chicken or pork dishes without too strong a flavouring

How to make the recipe

Combine all ingredients in a glass bowl and stir to combine. (Start with a very small amount of jalapeno pepper and taste before adding more). Season with salt and pepper.

Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator overnight or on the counter at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.

For best results, make this salsa the night before serving so the flavours have a chance to blend. This will also soften the peaches and onion to a nice consistency.

Storing the recipe

Store the salsa in a jar or airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Recipe tips

The perfect peaches for the recipe are ones that aren’t too ripe. Press your finger and if they feel slightly firm, these are the best ones to use.  Too ripe peaches will go a bit mushy when used.

Soak the red onion in a cup of water for 10-15 minutes before using it to reduce its strong flavour and odour.
