Benefits of oats

Oats in general are good stuff and are particularly handy at helping you feel full during the morning – and avoiding those 11am snacks!  Oats have lots of good stuff in them including fibre, B vitamins and plan based proteins.

For example, a portion contains a good amount of the fibre we should eat each day which helps to process foods through our bodies and can reduce the chance of high cholesterol.  The plant based proteins are also good for people with Type2 diabetes and even to help reduce the risk of getting the condition if you don’t already have it.

Oats also contain a good amount of healthy carbohydrates.  These are needed for things like bone density, energy levels and even fertility.  Plus, the right carbs in the right way can help boost the heart and immune system.

Recipe tips

You can easily make this into an overnight oats recipe if you like.  Not only will the house smell like apple pie when you get up, but you will have a filling and warm breakfast to enjoy.  You may want to cook at a lower temperature and for longer if you are doing an overnight cook – check your appliance for their best advice.

Make sure you grease the insides of the slow cooker before you start otherwise it will be hard to get the oats out and a pain to clean!
